Sha Shuang (Sasha) has graduated with Bachelor and Master Degree in Printmaking from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2016 and 2019 respectively. She works with a wide range of media, experimenting with installation art, painting, ceramics, photography, prints, and site-specific projects.
Sha Shuang’s recent body of work has been examining the meaning behind the concept of a ‘standard’ and what it implies as a set of principles that guides the judgments of people of different genders, nationalities, age, professions and backgrounds.
Sha Shuang is processing a large amount of images into her work. The images are sourced online with the help of Google – a powerful search engine tool that, in the artist’s opinion, is responsible itself for creation and adaptation of standards people use nowadays. By searching and ultimately adopting in her work the images found in Google with keywords related to beauty, health, work, family, states, travel, children, buildings, interiors, among many others, she reviews various standards that are relevant and applied daily in her own life thus questioning whether standard can be seen as ideal, and vice versa.
Sha Shuang’s immersive installations and two-dimensional works visually stand out for its interactive quality and continuous, uninterrupted portrayal of elements on various surfaces and textures, and planes.
Sha Shuang’s latest installation “The Ideal Life” has been added to the collection of the Central Academy of Fine Art Museum and one of the most prestigious collections of Chinese contemporary art the White Rabbit Collection in Australia, Sydney.
