Liu Shao Dong’s portrayal and representation of animals are not just to construct a form of play. These gentle and little animals actually imply his deep understanding of the relationship between man and nature. At the same time, they are not only used as a resource medium and object, but they are also like people's partners, wrapping, attaching, and accompanying "people".
Shao Dong returns and obsesses to the ontological expression of sculpture. His works retain the traces of their creation to the greatest extent possible, without too much physical embellishment like other artists. There are less lyrical or conceptual curves, more straightforward decisiveness and my own new understanding of sculptural shape. In his works such as "Flock of Sheep" and "Duck", it can be clearly seen that he left traces of squeezing and scratching on the surface of sculptures in order to quickly capture psychological feelings. In terms of expression, it does not stick to one mode of expression and does not adhere to a certain established convention, but constantly explores various possibilities of figurative forms and gives them new meaning and spiritual connotation.
