Sun Chenyi began with the study of Chinese painting, then transferred to the foundation study of Western painting. During the university study period, he began to focus on oil painting creation and art history theory as the main study and research direction. In 2015, he obtained a BFA degree in painting from Fudan University Shanghai Institute of Visual Art. In 2018, he got a MFA degree in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design.
Sun Chenyi's works focus on two main directions: one is to reshape the space, making the space rich, mysterious, and diverse. The second is to explore the relationship and connection between people with people, people with society, and people with the world. Chenyi explores the connection through different painting expressions and different themes. This is a long-term question worth studying and thinking about. The people, objects, and environments around us are changing when we are at different ages, including the self. The experience of each stage will make people have new thinking and progress.
While creating his own art, Sun Chenyi also pays attention to art education: in 2019, Chenyi donated a personal painting to the 27th Annual Education Fundraising Auction of Friend Academy in New York; in 2022, Chenyi joined the Shanghai Cao Peng Charity Fund as an art teacher in the autistic children's education project "Angel Confidant Salon", he wants to use art to cure autistic children, and this is also a researching. At the same time, he can also observing how special people's self-world is， and how they are related to our society and the world.
