The work seeks inspiration from the traditional craft of "千层底” (multi-layering) and pushes this method to an extreme. First, thousand layers of cloth is made into hundreds of "袼褙"(layered-cloth), which are then sewed together with thick cotton thread. This recreation process gives a new life to the discarded clothing fabrics. The artist devotes himself into such complex work repeatedly, day after day, transforming the old into the new, the soft into the firm, the flimsy into the heavy, subverting people's conventional recognition of the cloth as a material. All these persistent practices quietly hide behind the artwork itself, leaving no trace on the surface of the pure and simple blocks. Only through the cracks or cuts can we discover the story behind them.
